Info to know

I couldn't find a clever way to tie any of these bits together as the only thing they have in common is that they relate to Southeast Missouri. In order according to time:

Voting on all Angels

Voting for the next Victoria's Secret Angel will last until 7 p.m. today. Cape native Ali Turner, known to America as Allison Turner, went from thousands of hopeful angels to 10 and to the Top 5. You can view Ali and her competition in their second challenge in Angel Boot Camp at vsallaccess.com.

If you saw the first "challenge," you might be rolling your eyes. They had to go to Grand Central Station and pose for photos. In a reality TV world where challenges include eating the private parts of giant mammals, tightrope walking from one skyscraper to another or holding on to a wooden pole for as long as you can, posing for photos seems a bit cushy. But these girls were in the middle of Grand Central Station in their underwear. I'd say that's a textbook nightmare.

The next challenge has a bit more action. The girls were put in a room with David Kirsch, a hard-body fitness guru. Kirsch had the gals strip down and then pointed out just which parts of them weren't Angelic. Then he made them work. Hard.

The two winners of this round will, we think, walk the runway and the winner will be announced Dec. 1 before the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show airs. The loser will be edited out. Harsh.

Artsy Entrepreneurship

As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, Gary Lucy, a SEMO alumnus and professional artist, will present a seminar called "Entrepreneurship in the Arts" from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (tomorrow) at the River Campus.

Lucy has won several awards for his art, but reportedly realized young that being a good artist wasn't good enough and is also a historian, amateur geographer, biologist and archeologist.

It's free. Go learn something.

Sale of the arts

You know how your mom used to say a handmade gift for her was enough when you handed her your macaroni frame or deformed clay fish? Well, a handmade gift by someone with an actual artistic gift is better.

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri again has the Wall of Minis on display with small, affordable artwork from the Artist Co-op. When one goes home with a new owner, another gets stuck on the nail, keeping the stock fresh.

The department of Art at SEMO will hold a Holiday Art Show and Sale from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday in the atrium at the River Campus with hand-dyed silk scarves, holiday cards, jewelry and more.

Shop early. Buy local.

Being in the middle of GCS in your underwear sounds like a sub-plot from an Alfred Hitchhock movie. It IS a scary thought for those of us who know we're not going to be helping a company hawk their skivvies by modeling it. Hmmm...the product should sell itself, shouldn't it?

You made me laugh. Thanks.
