1937: Massive hunt for man who stole gasoline
Posted Thursday, January 24, 2013, at 12:00 AM
I received quite a few comments about an item I used Dec. 20 in the "Out of the Past" column about the theft of gasoline from a Highway 61 station in 1937, and the extent to which the miscreant was pursued.
I thought you might enjoy reading the full article.
The next day's story stated that the sheriff was investigating the articles found in the car, which Lancaster apparently borrowed from another man in St. Louis. The clothing and other items were worth around $80. Lancaster, who was wearing a new suit when arrested, was charged in Justice of the Peace Court with petit larceny.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find the conclusion to this case.
