1951: Stories from Chief Mills
Posted Thursday, December 13, 2012, at 12:00 AM
My parents were friends to Bill and Dollie Mills. They hailed from Commerce, Mo., the same as my father.
By the time I knew them, they were living in Cape Girardeau. I remember visits with them and my enjoyment hearing the stories they would tell. But I can't remember Bill ever sharing too many tales about his time on the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
So, I was delighted when I found this story about him.
After serving with the department seven years, Mills resigned as chief on April 12, 1952. Afterward, he was employed in maintenance at the Southeast Missouri State University's power plant for many years.
Dollie Mills passed away in 1996 at the age of 77. Her devoted husband followed two years later at age 86.
