How to Be More Productive While Studying
Students often get overwhelmed when they see how much studying they have to do each semester. Finding the motivation to spend long hours in front of books can be hard when you’re trying to lead a social life and go to events as well. Because of this, it’s important that you learn how to make the time you do spend studying count.
By becoming more productive while studying, you will be able to lead a balanced life. Not only will you start getting better grades, but you’ll also have time to go to parties and hang out with your friends. Instead of messing up your sleep habits and spending all day in your dorm room, here are some ways to cut down on the time you spend studying and learn more.
Track Your Hours
Planning your personal time is crucial if you want to increase your productivity. However, you won’t be able to do this if you don’t know how much of your time a certain task will take on average. In other words, you should write down exactly how much time you need to do research, write an essay or read a page from a book. By doing this, you’ll start being able to predict exactly how much time certain tasks will take.
Find a Good Place for Studying
Studying in a place where there are a lot of distractions can be very difficult. If you don’t know how to ignore distractions, then you shouldn’t study in your dorm room because you’ll most likely spend your time chatting with a roommate or surfing the web on your laptop. Examples of great places for studying include libraries and quiet coffee shops. Make sure to check out numerous spots before making a decision, since this will be your study place for the next few years.
Take Regular Breaks
Many people think that they will get more done if they don’t take breaks. Nevertheless, it’s important to note that breaks actually increase your productivity. Keep in mind that your brain will have a hard time processing so much new information if you don’t take breaks often. It’s recommended that you take 5 minutes to cool off every hour. During your breaks, you should ideally take a short walk or do some breathing exercises instead of grabbing your phone and checking your social media accounts.
Invest in Furniture
Being comfortable has a huge effect on your productivity, which is why you should invest some money in good furniture. For example, having an uncomfortable chair will make it harder for you to focus on studying. On top of that, it may also cause back problems.
Apart from getting a comfy chair, you should consider using a reading pillow as well. Many people prefer to study on their beds, since that’s where they feel most comfortable. Unfortunately, since traditional pillows are designed specifically for sleeping, it’s hard to use them for any other activities. Thankfully, a reading pillow will provide support for a different sitting posture, which will allow you to study while in bed.
Improve Your Sleep Habits
Getting a good night’s sleep is essential if you want to be productive. In order to improve your sleep habits, you should start going to bed when you’re truly tired and sleep for at least 8 hours each night. There are many other ways to improve sleep habits, such as eating healthier and exercising regularly.
Avoid Multitasking
Many people are under the illusion that multitasking will allow them to accomplish more in less time. Nevertheless, multitasking will only make it harder for you to concentrate, which will make it harder for you to do certain tasks. Try focusing on just one task at a time and you’ll see your productivity increase.
