Just a skip away
Tower Rock, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, located just east of Wittenberg, Missouri or just west of Grand Tower, Illinois on the Mississippi River, appears to be much closer to shore than it actually is now that the water level here has dropped to a point where it is possible to walk to the historic rock from the Missouri shoreline. River stage at Cape Girardeau today was 7.97. It is expected to drop to the 7.5 stage by Thursday which could pose problems for commercial river traffic. (Fred Lynch photo)
