SEMO Body & Salvage Co. aerial

Posted Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at 12:00 AM

This aerial view of SEMO Body & Salvage Co., 2003 Independence St., was taken by G.D. Fronabarger sometime after the grand opening of the Town Plaza shopping center in August 1960.

The area to the north of the Town Plaza is currently the Walmart Neighborhood Market.

  • It is interesting to see how much things have changed. I believe the street near the upper right center of this picture is Clark Street, and the railroad tracks are cutting diagonally across it and Independence Street. JW Gerhardt Construction Co. is the small building just east of Clark and north of the tracks and Independence. You recently had a blog with Mr. Gerhardt sitting in the office there:

I wonder if there are any Missourian photos of that building or reports of when it was demolished...? Anyway, thank you for your exceptional blog; I enjoy it and find the links to previous blogs and articles both useful and fascinating.
