One way to beat the heat

You can lick, sip or munch a snowcone--one way to beat the sizzling sun that greeted the arrival of summer Saturday. Todd Jones found his business good along Capaha Park as Cape Girardeans flocked to the park for baseball, swimming and bicentennial activities. His customer is Miss LaReesa Smith. (Fred Lynch photo)

  • Brad Brune was bugging me to do something on my blog about VW dealers in Cape. I came up fairly empty, but I DID find about three dozen photos with VWs in them. It was sort of a "Where's Waldo?" of Volkswagens.

Most of them were in Ohio, but there are a few Cape images or with Cape people in the pictures.

  • I believe my late grandfather worked for the VW dealership in Cape. When my grandparents moved to Illinois, Grandpa went to work for Pete Epps in Carbondale.
