Fred Lynch retired in 2018 after capturing images for the Southeast Missourian since 1975, in that time moving from black-and-white to color, from film to digital and to video. The blog title is a nod to an earlier era of news photography and the 4x5 Speed Graphic: It's more important to be there for the shot than to worry about technical details.

Hamming it up for the Jaycee Follies

Participants as well as the audience had a great time Friday night as the Jaycee Follies got off to a two-night stand at Central High School auditorium.

Dennis Henson, state Jaycee president, got a pie in the face during the warmup, resulting in this sticky, what-hit-me expression. [photo below]

Then, Jimmie Ray Fischer got stuck in his chair, resulting in a quick call for Gene Huckstep to bring in his extricating equipment for rescue. [photo above] The effort to remove Mr. Fischer was successful.

The Follies conclude their 1976 performance tonight with the warmup at 7 and the main show at 8 o'clock. (Fred Lynch photos)
