The Viaduct Court, so named because of a nearby bridge across the Diversion Channel, had it all -- cottages, a service station, a dining room, steam heat, showers and garages for tourists' cars. It was a self-contained haven for travelers located at Highways 61 and 74 south of Cape Girardeau. At the top of the photo is the new Highway 61 with cloverleaf to Highway 74 that was built 8 to 12 feet higher than the existing highway south to Scott County. (G.D. Fronabarger photo)
