Fred Lynch retired in 2018 after capturing images for the Southeast Missourian since 1975, in that time moving from black-and-white to color, from film to digital and to video. The blog title is a nod to an earlier era of news photography and the 4x5 Speed Graphic: It's more important to be there for the shot than to worry about technical details.

The front window of Gladish-Walker Furniture Co., 633 Good Hope, is seen in this undated photo by G.D. Fronabarger.

Carl "Jack" Gladish owned and operated the business with Barrett Walker. The store opened in 1931 (see timeline below) and closed in 1969.

This picture was made in March, 1961 when the Midtown Shopping Center was undergoing renovation.

The building at 633 Good Hope collapsed July 3, 2014. Here is a photo with story:
