A&P Super Market, 2121 William

Posted Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at 12:00 AM

The A&P Super Market opened its second retail unit in Cape Girardeau on Aug. 2, 1967 at William Square, 2121 William St. The downtown A&P supermarket remained open until 1972. The new store on William was closed in 1977. The Flaming Pit restaurant was also located at William Square.

Harold Sanders, manager of the A&P store here and a company employe for 31 years, and Joe Grojean, head of the store meat department, are longtime friends as well as business associates. When the store at 2121 William here closes Feb. 26, it will mean the end of an era for many of the longtime employes and customers. (Southeast Missourian, Feb. 18, 1977)
