Fred Lynch retired in 2018 after capturing images for the Southeast Missourian since 1975, in that time moving from black-and-white to color, from film to digital and to video. The blog title is a nod to an earlier era of news photography and the 4x5 Speed Graphic: It's more important to be there for the shot than to worry about technical details.

Main Street Christmas Shopping

Frony snapped this picture of people shopping on Main Street in downtown Cape Girardeau. The year is unclear.

The 1962 city directory lists these businesses that can be seen in the photo:

C.C. Miller, Irvin's clothing store, St. Charles Hotel, Biederman Furniture, Montgomery Ward, Ross Young's clothing and Sears.

OMG! We bought our first color tv from Biederman's! Mom wanted to surprise daddy and had it delivered to the house. Good thing I was there when it was delivered because daddy told them to take it back because he didn't buy any tv.
