Fred Lynch retired in 2018 after capturing images for the Southeast Missourian since 1975, in that time moving from black-and-white to color, from film to digital and to video. The blog title is a nod to an earlier era of news photography and the 4x5 Speed Graphic: It's more important to be there for the shot than to worry about technical details.

Clearing operations on a rise just east of Camelia Drive for the new Route K construction have offered for the first time an unobstructed view of William Street below. The view is east where bulldozers can be seen clearing for the extension of William Street as Route K.

William Street where it ends at Highway 61 is at upper right, and the Town Plaza shopping center spreads out to its left. The project will mean the construction of a four-lane limited access highway from Highway 61 to Gordonville Road near Interstate 55. (Southeast Missourian photo)

That view looks a little similar to the bottom photo on this page, except I had Academic Hall and Southeast Hospital in my shot.
