New Jefferson School playtime

April 3, 1958 Southeast Missourian

It really was spring Wednesday when temperatures soared into the 70s in Cape Girardeau, and these school pupils were quick to take advantage of it during their play periods. Typical was a skip-the-rope game in progress at the new Jefferson School. (G.D. Fronabarger photo)

Editor's Note:

The new school was built in 1957 on a 10-acre tract facing Minnesota Avenue. The original building had six classrooms, but within five years it was necessary to add six more rooms and a gymnasium. It replaced the old Jefferson School that was built at Ellis and Jefferson streets in 1905.
