Fred Lynch retired in 2018 after capturing images for the Southeast Missourian since 1975, in that time moving from black-and-white to color, from film to digital and to video. The blog title is a nod to an earlier era of news photography and the 4x5 Speed Graphic: It's more important to be there for the shot than to worry about technical details.

Rabbit hunt with a catty backfire. W.J. Niswonger, left, and his brother, Noah Niswonger, were hunting rabbits just south of the cement plant Monday when their beagle, shown here, gave a sharp yelp and called off the hunt. The brothers, investigating, found this big bobcat crouched in a tangle and promptly dispatched him with a shotgun. The big cat, about 4 1/2 feet long, weighed a shade over 20 pounds.
