Fred Lynch retired in 2018 after capturing images for the Southeast Missourian since 1975, in that time moving from black-and-white to color, from film to digital and to video. The blog title is a nod to an earlier era of news photography and the 4x5 Speed Graphic: It's more important to be there for the shot than to worry about technical details.

Goin' Back to School 1947

These youngsters, with hundreds of others, will trudge back to school for another year in a few days. The picture well carries out the spirit of the "Back to School" section of The Missourian. First Day of School was one of those assignments you could count on, no matter where were working.

Here was the first day of school for kindergarten kids starting Alma Schrader School in 1967.

I don't know if these photos of Kage School were taken on the first day, but I'm sure today's students are happy they don't have to make a trip to the outhouse for relief.
