Fred Lynch retired in 2018 after capturing images for the Southeast Missourian since 1975, in that time moving from black-and-white to color, from film to digital and to video. The blog title is a nod to an earlier era of news photography and the 4x5 Speed Graphic: It's more important to be there for the shot than to worry about technical details.

Chris Cross Cafe

The Chris Cross Cafe is shown on the northwest corner Broadway and Sprigg street in this photo taken in the early 1960s. The building was formerly Bauer Bros. Bakery.

The site is now a vacant lot next to Broadway Prescription Shop.

In 2010, I ran a post where a building behind the Chris Cross was being torn down and I was trying to figure out where it was.

Readers filled in the details pretty quickly, including one from the owner's grandson.
