Fred Lynch retired in 2018 after capturing images for the Southeast Missourian since 1975, in that time moving from black-and-white to color, from film to digital and to video. The blog title is a nod to an earlier era of news photography and the 4x5 Speed Graphic: It's more important to be there for the shot than to worry about technical details.

Philmont or Bust

These local explorers and older scouts left early today for Camp Philmont in New Mexico where they will spend 12 days under rough camping experiences on the open trail. The three day trip will include overnight stops in Wichita, Kan., and LaJunta, Colo., where planned activities have been set up. From left to right, front: John D. There's a goodly number of folks I recognize in the photo. I don't think I ever heard of anyone who didn't treasure his visit to Philmont.
