Fred Lynch retired in 2018 after capturing images for the Southeast Missourian since 1975, in that time moving from black-and-white to color, from film to digital and to video. The blog title is a nod to an earlier era of news photography and the 4x5 Speed Graphic: It's more important to be there for the shot than to worry about technical details.

Sunny Hill milk party

G.D. Fronabarger made this picture for an advertisement in the Feb. 27, 1960 Achievement Edition for Sunny Hill Farms Dairy Co., 45 S. West End Blvd. A drawing of "Sonny" Hill pouring milk into the boy's drinking glass was added above the photo.

"Here's the playmate every child should have!"

A caption includes the names of the playmates, from left: Pamela Gastro, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Gastro; Michael Kasten, son of Dr. and Mrs. Melvin C. Kasten; Bruce Nunnelly, son of Dr. and Mrs. Gordon Nunnelly; and Cindy Heller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Heller.

I found an intact, but empty, (and in perfect condition) one of these old milk cartons at a flea market. I had to buy it as it brought back a lot of memories. I wish I knew who the children were in this photo. They look to have been just a little older than I was in 1961.
