Fred Lynch retired in 2018 after capturing images for the Southeast Missourian since 1975, in that time moving from black-and-white to color, from film to digital and to video. The blog title is a nod to an earlier era of news photography and the 4x5 Speed Graphic: It's more important to be there for the shot than to worry about technical details.

Blomeyer Junction 1954

The Montgomery Drive-In was showing "Ma and Pa Kettle at Home" when this picture was taken at the Blomeyer Junction on Highway 25 between Dutchtown and Chaffee by G.D. Fronabarger. The movie came out in 1954.

There is a sign on the left for the Curve Inn Cafe. A motel is in the background. Zephyr gasoline was selling for 23.9 cents a gallon.

The old concrete screen is still there, but it looks like it's being eaten by something out of one of the horror movies shown on it.

There's a new, faster, way to get there if you're coming up I-55 from the south: Nash Road.
