Gun Show at Arena Building

Posted Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at 6:00 AM

The Cape Girardeau Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Jaycees, sponsored its first gun show at the Arena Building on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 30-31, 1960 which G.D. Fronabarger photographed.

A similar photo was published on Monday in the Southeast Missourian.

The caption noted the event brought collectors and dealers to the show with a display of guns valued at many thousands of dollars. Various events, such as a fast-draw contest, were held.

Note the old wooden basketball floor.

Fred Lynch has captured images for the Southeast Missourian since 1975, in that time moving from black-and-white to color, from film to digital and to video. The blog title is a nod to an earlier era of news photography and the 4x5 Speed Graphic: It's more important to be there for the shot than to worry about technical details.
