  • Hmmmm, Mapquest puts this at the former Rhodes bait shop convenience mart, across from the now Houch's Donuts.

I vaguely remember the sign - but what I most remember about that location was the two Gulf service stations side by side, wondering how did that work?

  • I remember it as being where the Fireplace Center is.

  • It was behind Food Giant, yes, probably where Fireplace Center is. The ice cream was great; a very custardy flavor; only one kind of ice cream machine made it; the only other machines I am aware of were in Campbell, MO (by the overpass) and Paragould, Ark. Yummy.

Ahhhh, that fits the puzzle much better than what I was trying to envision. Geez, guess it's getting to where ya just can't trust anything on the Internet anymore. :-)

  • My father often picked me up from Franklin School for lunch at Dari-Castle. My addiction to their pork fritter sandwiches, curly fries that looked like miniature bed springs, and root beer freezes remains with me, to this day.
