Double tracks on riverfront

June 14, 1958 Southeast Missourian

Although it might appear the Frisco railroad is doubling its track capacity, it actually is getting ready for construction of the next section of flood wall. Tracks are being laid on the east edge of Water street to provide more room for the construction work which will take place approximately 14 feet down the levee slope. One-way traffic, headed north, will prevail on Water during the construction period, which is expected to last a year or more. (G.D. Fronabarger photo)

Editor's Note:

The building at far left was the Batten-Weiss Furniture Co. on the corner of Water and Themis streets. It is now the Port Cape Girardeau restaurant.

Here is an earlier blog about the Batten-Weiss Furniture building.

Here is a previous blog about wharf parking that would end with floodwall construction.
