Deer hunter shoots bobcat

It's convenient to have a good gun when you meet up with something different in the way of game in the woods. Leo Boren of Cape Girardeau, a weekend deer hunter, didn't get his deer, mainly because this critter, a 40-pound bobcat Boren is holding, was in the hunting area, and his pungent cat odor drifted into wary deer nostrils. Boren downed the big cat near Scopus with a 30-40 Craig rifle. His small son, Douglas, 3, simply queried, "Daddy, why did you shoot the kitty?" (G.D. Fronabarger photo)

  • Why did you shoot the kitty? Did you eat it?

  • This is so cute! I am Leo Boren's granddaughter and Doug's daughter. We have this picture and newspaper clipping in the basement of my grandparents' house. What a blessing to have this picture resurface for others to enjoy!

    Also:

Why shoot the kitty? 1. Because you can. 2. So it doesn't harm your child. 3. Because you can. And yes, we ate the kitty...on my 21st birthday. It was delicious. Silly liberals. Go hug a tree.
