After eight months of remodeling the old Jay's Smokehouse building in Jackson, El Torero has opened.

The new location will offer expanded seating, from 120 at its former building at 711 E. Jackson Blvd. to 198 now at 1830 E. Jackson Blvd. It will also sport ample decorations, a fountain and an electronic message board.

Hours will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The phone number is 204-0905.

Just what this area needed - another generic, family-style Mexican restaurant with "El" in the title.

Sam, the old El Toreo closed down and new one opened down the street. So the number of our crappy mexican restaurants have stayed the same.

Maybe this is old news, but El Bracero (which is directly across the street from the "new" El Toreo) has closed. Tis a shame because the environment and food was better (or not as crappy) than El Toreo.

I've driven by the restaurant every day for the past eight months wondering if it was ever going to open. It's been funny, seeing the work progressing for so long. I'm going to try it out today. I hope their service is not as slow as the remodeling! Good luck, Amigos.

Sad to hear about El Bracero.

Anyone know if the roaches and e coli are making the move to the new location as well?

El Bracero closed .... Holy Crap, that was a far superior resturant to El Torero.

I think they need to put a traffic light in front of the new El Torero its only been open 2 days and I've seen nearly 3 accidents from people trying to pull into an already overcrowded parking lot. I mean whats one more traffic light its not like there are that many now ... right?
