After nearly five months of closure, Tower Rock Winery & Vineyard in Altenburg, Mo., has reopened. New co-owner Nancy Hadler said the winery began serving its customers again on Sept. 12. Her son, Ben Tully, is the wine maker and operations manager.

The winery has added inventory to its gift shop including vine and wine related-products.

"Part of our motivation for the winery is that my family is from this area," said Hadler, who has a number of relatives living in Perry County. "So it's kind of like old home week when I travel back there from St. Louis on the weekends."

Hadler had purchased the winery from Cheryl and Bob Breuer who established the vineyard 10 years ago. After Bob passed away in October 2008 and Cheryl put the winery on the market this past spring for sale.

You can visit the winery at 10769 Route A noon to 6 p.m. Thursdays, noon to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays.

Anyone know why it was closed, or sold to new owners?

The man that previously owned it passed away from cancer, if I'm not mistaken.

Anybody know anything about the new restaurant downtown? Where In the Wine Cellar used to be?

Many recent visitors to the winery have referenced Brian's blog, so I thought I'd let you know that we'll have music at the winery Saturday & Sunday afternoons, starting Sunday, October 4, with The Big Idea. Here's the lineup after that: Sun Oct 11 The Big Idea; Sat Oct 17 Dale Haskell acoustic; Sun Oct 18 The Big Idea; Sat Oct 24 Bruce Zimmerman Duo; Sun Oct 25 Deuce Denninger & Shannon Meyer. Hope to see you on the vineyard!

We're sad to report that the winery is temporarily closed, while we deal with some "red tape." Tune in here or at www.towerrockwine.com for news of reopening. We have a lot planned between now and the end of the year!
