Postal Planet moving
Posted Tuesday, February 9, at 7:46 AM
A month after new ownership took over, a Jackson postal business is planning a March relocation.

Dr. Wayne and Sharon Sarno assumed control of Postal Planet, 2905 E. Jackson Blvd., on Jan. 1. They're planning a move to 1166 Greenway Drive, Suite A4, on March 1.

The new location will include additional services such as secure document shredding and notary services.

Its hours and phone number will remain the same.

Once Postal Planet moves, it will mark the second time the business has relocated since September. When then-owner Mike Lackamp purchased the business then he moved Postal Planet from 2114 E. Jackson Blvd.

Postal Planet can be reached at 204-8222 and is open 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Favorite Super Bowl commercials
Posted Monday, February 8, at 6:25 AM

While many watch the Super Bowl each year for the actual game, others who normally could care less about the sport tune in for the commercials. This year's slate included talk show host rivals David Letterman and Jay Leno alongside one another, actress Betty White talking a little smack while playing a football game, a pretty cool trailer for the upcoming movie Robin Hood and too may spots featuring people in their underwear...

What's your favorite pizza place in Southeast Missouri?
Posted Sunday, February 7, at 7:58 AM

Since Mario's Pasta House serving stromboli, pizza and a variety of pastas opened recently at 252 E. Jackson Blvd. and the Super Bowl kicks off today between the Colts and my beloved Saints, I thought a suitable topic of conversation to kick around would be favorite area pizza restaurants. I haven't visited Mario's yet but I have eaten at quite a few more. I'd love to know your thoughts about your favorite pizza joint...

How are you spending your tax return refund?
Posted Thursday, February 4, at 6:25 AM

My wife and I filed our tax return last week and received quite a bit more refund than last year, mainly because of the benefits of a child. I'm planning on paying off some bills, purchasing a small digital camera that was lost a couple of weeks ago and saving the majority. But I'd like to know what you plan on doing with your refund. Please post or e-mail bblackwell@semissourian.com with your answers...

Mall clothing store closes; another restaurant could be out of business
Posted Wednesday, February 3, at 6:29 AM

A stroll through West Park Mall on Tuesday afternoon included learning that an Anaheim, Calif.-based clothing store has closed. PacSun, which caters to the teenage crowd, apparently shut its doors within the last few days. Meanwhile, the Sonic Drive-In at 2126 Broadway has the words "closed" on its billboard that normally advertises its specials. One would think that meant the fast-food restaurant has shut its doors but I'm waiting to hear back from the higher ups for official confirmation...

Vintage Cape Girardeau video
Posted Friday, January 29, at 7:15 AM

Cape Girardeau has made some efforts to boost tourism lately, with the most recent being the exploration of a sign system directing visitors, tourists and students through the city. This morning our librarian Sharon Sanders directed me to an old-school video about the city. While we wait for the snow to fall on this soon-to-be snowy day, this is another way to help you pass the time...

Three trapped in Bunker, Mo., survive in refuge chamber until rescue
Posted Monday, January 25, at 10:46 AM

Here's something you don't hear about everyday in Missouri. Three people were recently trapped in a mine in Bunker, Mo., but managed to escape safely. According to a press release from the US Department of Labor, the incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 21 after a truck fire at Doe Run Co.'s Viburnum No. 29 lead-zinc mine. Three of 16 miners working underground were unable to escape the blaze, as the truck blocked their escape route...

The day after Valentine's Day a new store specializing in shoes and other products designed to improve one's skill in running a marathon or just a short jog around the block is scheduled to open at 1131 N. Kingshighway. This will be the third store the Ghisallo company owns, with another running store in University City, Mo., and a bicycle store in Chesterfield, Mo. ...
