County history presentation scheduled for genealogical society meeting

County history will be the subject at this Tuesday's Cape Girardeau Genealogical Society meeting.

Scheduled at 7:30 p.m. at the county archive center, 112 E. Washington St. in Jackson, the meeting will feature Conrad Hudson, who moved with his family from Arkansas to Southeast Missouri at the age of 8. In addition to his interest in genealogy and county history, Hudson also served in the US Air Force and earned a degree in business administration from Southeast Missouri State University.

For those members of the society wishing to do research on Tuesday, the library will open an hour before the meeting. Membership in the society is $10 per year, though non-members are welcome at the bi-monthly meetings on the fourth Tuesday.

Saying goodbye to longtime Southeast Missourian employee retiring from Jackson office

Today marks the end of a nearly 13-year career for Joy Baker, who has worked in the Southeast Missourian's Jackson office at 104 S. Hope St. since her first day here. Speed limit on two roads in county could change today

The Cape Girardeau County Commission will hold its third and final public hearing on proposed speed limit changes on two roads known for frequent speeding and accidents. After the public hearing the commission could sign an ordinance that would change the speed limit to 35 mph on County Road 205 and 25 mph on Singing Hills Drive. By default, all county roads have a speed limit of 60 mph, unless a commission passes an ordinance reducing the speed limit...

Christian book store coming to Cape Girardeau

Since Hollywood Video closed in late October, the building at 127 Siemers Drive in Cape Girardeau has sat empty. In a few months a new Christian bookstore will breathe life into the space once again.
