What's Your Take on Nudes?
Hello Cape Girardeau, Missouri and beyond,
What a debate we have this spring season on a color! The color is neutral, an ivory to beige to tan. However, what's the statement? To me it's just a neutral color for spring. We've seen it before in vintage fashion, accessories, and cosmetics. Can someone please tell me, what's the big deal?
From Ferragamo, to Prada, to Stella McCartney, to Delvaux, to Rodriguez to Jason Wu, the couture designers have gone nude. It's time to peruse our closets and our great community shops and go nude too, vintage nude, that is.
Women loved beige satin and lace in the late 1800's. When I think of a nude color, I think immediately of the '60s and '70s. Nudes graced the catalog and magazine covers. Cosmetics featured nudes then just as they do today.
After perusing many vintage catalogs and magazines, I thought, nice but I feel like a splash of color is needed. What do you think? I'd like your comments.
That said, since I'm in the '60s-'70s frame of mind. We need accessories for our nude attire. A large colorful enameled flower pin from the '60's-70s would be nice. A good friend loves them and wears them often in the spring as well as collects them. A nice inexpensive item to collect and you can wear a different one every day! Oh, and those great butterfly pins!
A '70s pair of shoes would be nice. They are clunky and bright and colorful -- even 2-3 colors. Or, guess what? Color block shoes are in this year. You can buy a pair from your favorite retailer. (The new fashion, I don't think so.)
A handbag that's colorful would be great. An Enid Collins faux jeweled and signed '60s wooden box purse, or how about the '70s wooden decoupage box purse for a splash of color? They are very different handbags and each unique.
Don't forget those great nude knit or crocheted capes. Do you have one, yet?
Stop by your favorite cosmetic counter (I know you have one.) and select a nude lipstick and a four-color beige set of eye shadow. Go nude all the way.
This spring think champagne, cream, ivory, ecru, stone, khaki, tan, -- think nude with a splash of color from your favorite accessory.
