Student of Ethics Scholarship
Do you have a child, grandchild, friend, or relative graduating this spring? If so, BBB has some exciting news of an upcoming scholarship opportunity.
Better Business Bureau invites high school seniors who will graduate in 2016 to apply now for the Cape Girardeau Regional Student of Ethics award, a $1,000 college or trade school scholarship that recognizes a student who demonstrates high ethics through leadership, community service, personal integrity and academic achievement.
Seniors who reside in the 28 counties in Missouri and Illinois served by BBB's Cape Girardeau Regional Office may submit their entries online through the BBB website by March 1. The counties are:
· Illinois Counties: Wayne, Hamilton, Saline, Pope, Hardin, Massac, Pulaski, Alexander, Johnson, Williamson, Franklin, Jefferson, Union, Jackson, Perry.
· Missouri Counties: Oregon, Ripley, Butler, Dunklin, Pemiscot, New Madrid, Mississippi, Stoddard, Scott, Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Wayne, Madison.
In addition to an entry form, students must upload a high school transcript, a letter of recommendation and a 300-word essay describing the process by which he or she confronted an ethical dilemma and made a decision. A new online formallows applicants to upload all components of their entries. A printable form also is available.
A panel of independent judges will choose the winner, considering each student's leadership qualities, academic performance, character and essay. The winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be used at an accredited college or trade school of the student's choice.
The winner will be recognized at the Cape Girardeau Regional TORCH Awards event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. April 28 at Ray's Plaza Conference Center in Cape Girardeau. To sign up for the event, click here.
The student will receive a certificate at the award ceremony, and the scholarship money will be sent to the college or school after the student is enrolled.
Applications are due by March 1, 2016.
