The Children First
Asking for help is not always easy. For many families in the Cape Girardeau Community this stands true but as Anne* states, "Sometimes you have to put your pride aside, put your own personal feelings second and think of your children first."
Anne is one of over 320 families that will be assisted by the Cape Jaycees Toybox Project this holiday season. A single mother of three, just paying the utilities and putting food on the table is a challenge month to month. When the Christmas season comes along it adds another layer to her financial stress, "I love the holiday season. I always have. I want to make it special for my kids and that is hard with a limited income. I have no choice but to look for help to bring Christmas to my home for them."
Your gifts for the Jaycee Toybox help bring joy to families like Anne's year after year. Current needs for the Toybox project include toys for older children ages 10-13 including: craft and makeup sets, purses with accessories, games for tweens, nerf sets, sports gear, and headphones.
The parallel program of the Cape Jaycees, Christmas for the Elderly, services senior citizens in the area. With little or no family, a limited income and poor health, life can be challenging for the elderly. Through the generosity of the community, we are able to make things a little more comfortable with gifts that meet their basic needs. Current needs for the Christmas for the Elderly program include:
