"Making a List...Checking It Twice"

I think we would all agree that the Holiday season seems to come earlier and earlier every year. For the Cape Jaycees, it never ends. We have been in the planning stages of our Christmas projects, Christmas for the Elderly and Toybox, since the calendar turned to 2016. With all this planning, excitement is building as we near the time when our efforts are shared with others, we are "making a list and checking it twice"!

In its 41st year of existence, the Jaycee Toybox services over 1200 children in the community every year. Delivering joy to the front door of families with financial need, the Toybox collects donations, fills the wish list of each child, and Santa personally delivers to every household. Each child in the household receives 3-5 gifts, depending on their age and requests. Monetary and gift donations are collected starting November 16th -- December 18th at the Southeast Missourian. Toys may be dropped off at area businesses around town; please check the ad in the Southeast Missourian for a full listing of participants.

Christmas for the Elderly works with the Department of Health and Senior Services to provide support to senior citizens in need in the County of Cape Girardeau. From the most basic of needs (cleaning supplies, toiletries, socks, towels, blankets, pet needs) to warm clothing , or gift cards from area pharmacies and grocery stores, the Jaycees reach out to those who may be alone, struggling fiscally, or ill. For many of these individuals, they have no one and a visit from a friendly face bearing gifts, simple in nature, is the high point of their holiday season. Monetary and gift donations for Christmas for the Elderly can be dropped off at the Southeast Missourian, on Broadway in Cape Girardeau. Donations are accepted until December 18th.
