Community Committment
Every year I am overwhelmed by the Community's commitment to helping others during the holiday season. For 39 years, individuals and businesses have reached out to those in need through the Jaycee Toybox and Christmas for the Elderly programs. Through gift donations, monetary support, and hours of volunteer work, we are able to give to over 1500 children and 30+ senior citizens in need every year. Creative ways to get others involved surface in small groups, work places, and individually in the surrounding area.
Jeans days in schools and area businesses, dollars and dimes drives or popcorn days in our Cape Public School System, an amazing collection of toys from Notre Dame High School, or monetary collections in lieu of gift exchanges among colleagues are just a few of the ways groups of individuals are getting involved.
Individually or with friends and family many are choosing to "adopt a family" and fulfill the wish list of one applicant's children this holiday season. Small coffee groups are pooling their money to meet the special needs of our elderly patrons. Even a "Wrapping with a Cause" in which gift wrapping is done for a donation towards Christmas for the Elderly.
All of these ideas are what make the success of these holiday projects happen year after year. So rather you just wish to grab an extra toy or item on your Christmas list or think outside the box and create your own fundraising ideas, the Jaycees can use your help. There are still many needs to fill and time is running short. Please support the Jaycee Toybox and Christmas for the Elderly events today!
