Single Mother and Stroke Victim Seeking Joy at Christmas
Every morning Kathleen packs up her two children, Tyler, age 3, and Jessica, age 5, to head out to one of her two jobs that offer the income necessary to pay the monthly bills. When tips are low, she worries about covering the cost of the rent, the utilities, and money for groceries and basic needs. As her children grow, Kathleen wants them to enjoy childhood, living their days free of the worry and anxiety that has become a normal part of her daily routine. She lives for the moments when they have time as a family to focus on play and evenings when she can be home to tuck them in bed with a good night story. Tyler enjoys building with blocks and playing with trucks. Jessica likes baby dolls and would like to have a stroller or highchair to play pretend with her "babies". The family loves to read together , as Kathleen encourages literacy and education in her home. She appreciates you and your participation in the program stating, "Toybox gives me the peace of mind during the holidays to know that my babies can be blessed with joy on Christmas morning. I am so thankful for programs like Toybox."
Ms. A, a recent stroke victim, currently lives with her daughter and son-in-law. Her daughter was recently laid off work and the three person household has to live on a single income. Undergoing continuing rehab, Ms. A had to give up her full-time job and struggles with the idea of depending on others for her basic needs. She is in need of a coat, size large, with gloves and a scarf to keep her warm during the upcoming winter months. Blankets and socks are appreciated, as are gift cards to pay for her ongoing medications. Losing your independence is a difficult thing to deal with at any age, Ms. A is no exception.

FYI...
Thanksgiving is behind us, Black Friday has come and gone, and the Christmas shopping season is in full swing! Please remember the children of the Jaycee Toybox and put them on your Christmas shopping list this year. I have had many individuals ask me -- "What is the difference in the toy drives in the area?" To clarify -- Jaycee Toybox and Toys for Tots (by the Marine Corps) are two very different programs. We service different children in the Cape Girardeau area and we do work together to see to it that each family is assisted by the appropriate program. With that being said, I ask that you offer your generosity to each program so that we may collaboratively reach each and every family that needs our support this holiday season. Thank you for your continued efforts for the children of the Cape Girardeau area!
