Reason to Celebrate
The past week and a half has seen a number of reasons for the Pit Bull world to celebrate.
Yesterday, February 24, 2016 HB1811, the legislation that would eliminate the crutch of breed targeting over addressing the irresponsible human, successfully passed 10-0 in the Missouri House of Representatives. This bill will now go to the House floor, hopefully to pass as quickly and cleanly, then on to our Senate.
Well done Missouri advocates and my apologies to those I doubted. The work is not over. While we won this latest battle, we still have much work to do.
If we are blessed to get this legislation successfully passed as law in Missouri, the advocates work will never be truly finished. To protect this law, we will have to step up to educate those who are “loving” this breed to death and to address those who care only for what they can gain through the abuse.
On another note, a few weeks ago one of our own was involved in an accident which left him barely clinging to life. John Richardson has become living proof miracles do happen and is well on his way to recovery.
The power of prayer and positive thoughts is never wasted. At this time, I would ask you again to share that support with another of our own.
In 2011 Mutts n Stuff stepped up to help save a victim of horrible abuse out of Mexico. His name was Rico and his then owner cut out his tongue when he collapsed as a result of being worked hard, in the heat of summer, without water.
Mutts n Stuff is renowned for being champions of the most horribly abused and in the case of Rico they stood firm in their resolve to insure the horrors he was subjected to would go on to spare dogs coming after him.
Rico became Muneco and went to spend his days with a wonderful advocate named Bina. This bright, beautiful woman has known her own share of prejudice but has never succumbed to the ignorance human beings can dish out.
Bina spent the last few years insuring this wonderful boy had the best life could offer. She never wavered in her love for him.
Last week Muneco aka Rico crossed the Rainbow Bridge. It may seem strange to include this in a post title Reason to Celebrate but it is important that we celebrate the lives of our dogs and those who stand firm in their resolve to end the bigotry. We see so much of the under belly of being involved with this breed it is important that we celebrate the success even if at times we feel there is little hope.
To Bina and all those who stand firm in the face of such overwhelming adversity, we send our love and deepest respect.
Congratulations to all in the successful pursuit of sanity!
