Naught for nothing
This is the link to one of the most comprehensive repeals of Breed Specific Legislation in the United States at this time. http://stopbsl.com/2012/02/21/ohio-hb-14...
The Governor of the State of Ohio signed into law HB14 which will repeal the automatic designation of viscious held against all Pit Bulls in that state. This marks the beginning of the fall of irresponsible legislation and the reinstatment of laws targeting the real problem....irresponsible ownership.
Congratulations to all the advocates that refused to give up this fight. You are true leaders in our field!
SIDE NOTE: I do not place any rescue dogs that I would not myself be willing to bring into my own home. Sadly, I cannot send 32 years of experience with this breed along with these dogs.
It has been my experience that, barring any health issues, dogs do not simply "turn" bad without warning. Unfortunatly, when we love our canine companions we tend to ignore certain warning signs and this can lead to tragedy. The tragedy does not only effect our families and communities, it also usually signs a death warrant for the dogs themselves.
My heart breaks at each story of rescues gone wrong. Because there is no fool proof method of guaranteeing any breed is not going to be prone to moments of "acting like a dog", I will no longer personally handle ANY rescues.
I will continue to do what I can to cross post pleas, work with owners in CGC level training classes and fight ill thought out legislation. My heart and soul bleed far too much to continue trying to directly place dogs.
