But...being fat is so much easier!
Wow, okay, so I started this blog back in the good old days of 2009 and I'me finally getting around to posting my first entry. (I've never claimed to be great with time management). Either way, it's great because now, being a stand up comedian, and starting a weight-loss journey, I actually have something to blog about, so here we go. That was a lot of commas.
Let me start off by telling you a bit about my weight problem. I've been fat for as long as I can remember, and at my highest was just over 450 pounds. Yikes! When I was a kid, my family and I would see somebody out who was around that size and my mom would warn me that if I didn't put the fork down, I would end up like that. And I would just think to myself "Yeah, right. Look how much bigger that guy is than me. I'll never be there," and I'd continue shoveling it in. Low and behold, now I'm that guy that moms point at and say the same to their kids. It sucks!
Due to my weight, I've suffered from ailments that normally don't plague people until later in life, like gout, sleep apnea, and strange heart palpitations, and I'm at a higher risk for things like diabetes, a heart attack, or -gulp- cancer. Luckily things are about to change.
Not to make this blog too long, but I'm sure by now you've seen the video of Arthur, the military veteran who was told he'd never walk again and started doing a certain brand of yoga created by former wrestler Diamond Dallas Page and -- well-- just watch the video. Go ahead. I can wait.

Did you cry? I cried. More importantly, I bought the workout. Yes, I took the last 45 bucks in my wallet, and I purchased DDPYoga. I was wondering how it would work for me, or if it would even work at all. I assure you: This is the real deal, folks. I've been doing it for just over 3 weeks and I've already lost 18 pounds! Thank you, thank you. You're too kind. Not only that, I've gained flexibility. Before, I could bend over and get about a foot away from my toes. Now, I'm touching the ground. I can also balance my leg out while standing for a few seconds. If you see me around town, ask me to do it for you, and I will.
It's great because the package I bought is $100 and it comes with 11 workouts on 4 DVDs, a program guide including an eating plan and several recipes, a poster with all the basic poses, and all of the workouts on MP3 so you can do them wherever you want once you know the poses. DDP is even nice enough to stay in direct contact with several people who bought his program. He actually called me on the phone a few days ago. He's a nice guy.
It's not easy. You have to work for it. Sure, I could have spent that $45 on a crap load of hamburgers, and it would have been delicious, but it would have been horrible for me. I think this is why people get so fat in the first place, because you can easily drive up to a window and buy 3 double cheeseburgers for less than $5 but making a full, healthy meal that is gluten and dairy free? That is a pain in the butt. And taking the easy way out has become the American way. Luckily, the results speak for themselves as I will soon have to buy a new belt, and probably pants.
But I digress.
I'll blog about more than just my weight loss journey, but I figured it was a nice one to start with. You can follow me on Twitter @TeamLouie for more random musings. In the meantime, I'll go ahead and link you to the site where you can check out the workouts if you're interested as well as the social network you can sign up for free, and they give you the first two workouts for free as well.
Until next time, I'm Louie Benson.
