Lumpy Nuggets
Rick "Lumpy" Vandeven is a lifelong resident of Scott County, Missouri. He is living the American dream of marriage, children, and a 30-year fixed rate mortgage despite the absurd obstacles thrown at him by inept government entities at every conceivable level.
In his meager spare time, Lumpy plays drums for the politically charged punk band - Richard's Nixon. He is also dedicated to crafting the perfect homebrewed beer, and enjoys voting and tasting exotic cheeses.

A Short Reply to Anyone But Obama 2012!
Posted Monday, May 14, 2012, at 2:05 PMI filled up my raggedy old '94 Toyota Pick Up this morning at the local filling station, and noticed a Post-It note on the gas pump which contained a message from "Anyone But Obama 2012!". Although the script of the note was designed to give the appearance of being hand written, it is very obvious that it is a cleverly designed replication of which hundreds are surely appearing on gas pumps in droves around the area... -
Adventures In Liberty
Posted Saturday, April 14, 2012, at 8:52 PM1Chalk up another successful day gathering signatures for the Show-Me Cannabis initiative. My friend and mentor Greg Tlapek, Executive Director of the Missouri Libertarian Party, helped out once again. My daughter Amber and her friend Preston helped corral my youngest daughter Rori Beth by keeping her occupied in the park. My oldest daughter Autumn also helped petition... -
A Proclamation of Intention
Posted Thursday, March 22, 2012, at 7:59 PMPoly means "many". Ticks are blood sucking parasites. Politics is an activity practiced by many blood sucking parasites. That definition of politics is shared by the general population, including me. Therefore a proclamation of my intention to once again dive into the seedy world of politics is in order... -
A Thanksgiving Tradition - The Story of Lump's Parachute Pants
Posted Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at 7:33 PMNote: Every year I post this old story. I hope that you enjoy it. Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Every year at Thanksgiving time I sit back and consider what I am thankful for currently in my life: my wonderful family and friends, a great job that is challenging and pays the bills, good health. Sometimes, I also like to ride a cheesy dream sequence to the past and remember those things I was thankful for in my youth - like the first pair of really awesome pants I ever owned!... -
Are You Going To Statistboro Fair?
Posted Sunday, September 18, 2011, at 2:21 PM1It's always personally rewarding to work the Libertarian Party booth at the local regional fair. I get to talk to real live people about libertarian philosophy as opposed to preaching to the "amen corner" online in chat rooms or Facebook. It affords me an opportunity to expose libertarianism to someone who may have never had the chance to meet an actual libertarian, drum up some support for the Libertarian Party, and forces me to solidify and back up my core beliefs to those who subscribe to differing philosophies.. ... -
Pondering Floods, a Visiting Jedi Master, and the Origins Of the Word "Tornadic"
Posted Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at 10:30 AMBetween filling sandbags and watching the local television meteorological personalities vie for precious onscreen face time, the flood has afforded me scant time to observe and comment on the human action that has been a consequence of the creeping backwater... -
A Thanksgiving Tradition: Lump's Parachute Pants
Posted Sunday, November 21, 2010, at 4:49 PM2Like a Macy's parade, the Detroit Lions getting slaughtered again, and your creepy Uncle Chestor passing out in the only decent recliner in the house after drinking 20 or your Keystone Lights - I present to you the story of my bitchin' Thanksgiving Day parachute pants. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!... -
Seeking Solutions
Posted Thursday, July 15, 2010, at 1:45 PM10As the candidates from the Big Government Party boast endlessly of the immense campaign war chests that they have built with other peoples' money (makes me realize how they are so proficient at waste), I thought that it may be a prime opportunity for a third party candidate like myself to provide some of my ideas to individuals that care more about solutions and substance, than the cheap political slogans and mundane banter that typify the modern American political system... -
Good Fences Make Good Subjects
Posted Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at 8:47 PM4I believe in the free movement of people and goods. That was the disclaimer just so you know where this is headed. I have heard some ridiculous arguments for a closed border. Most are actually criticisms of some government overstep that we have permitted: welfare, taxes, inflation, War on Drugs, etc... -
The Porn-o-Vision Information Act
Posted Sunday, May 9, 2010, at 2:50 PM3An article that I recently found on the internet told the tragic tale of a TSA employee that was jailed after taking exception to his supervisor poking fun at the size of (or in this case, the lack thereof) his junk during an on the job training session for the operation of the soon to be installed and much ballyhooed full body scanners coming soon to an airport near you... -
The 28th Amendment
Posted Monday, May 3, 2010, at 3:01 PM3I read a statistic once that claimed Americans saved some astronomical amount of money whenever Congress is not in session. I can't remember what that number was, so let's just call it $1 billion a day. Nothing under a trillion dollars garners much attention these days (and even that unconceivable amount is losing it's shock value), and politicians haven't a clue as to how wealth is created or maintained, so my estimate is extremely conservative... -
What Is The War Refund?
Posted Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at 7:01 AM22How about the federal government returning some of the money that they have stolen from you? Specifically the $3335 that it has cost every man, woman, and child in this country to wage war against the nations of Iraq and Afghanistan. Over the past week or so I have been asking everyone that I encounter, "what would you do with $3335?". ... -
Support the Nullification of ObombaKare
Posted Sunday, March 28, 2010, at 10:22 AM4The most revolting feature of ObombaKare is that the legislation completely pigeonholes every single person into a subgroup. We are no longer a country of individuals; we are now categorized into easy to rule classifications of healthy or sick, young or old, and with or without healthcare coverage... -

Do Your Part - The 2010 Census
Posted Saturday, March 13, 2010, at 9:15 AM5I received the latest in a seemingly endless series of official Census 2010 notifications by the U.S. Mail yesterday. I had already been visited by a friendly census taker earlier this past fall (taking GPS coordinates on my property come to find out), and this is at least the second pre-census notice that I have received... -
Why I Am Running For US Congress
Posted Friday, March 5, 2010, at 4:26 PM33The cornerstone of the libertarian philosophy is freedom through voluntary, non-aggressive cooperation. This is the antithesis of a large, centralized Federal government. The concept of liberty - that an individual is in control of his/her own destiny - is challenging to most Americans. ... -
Blogging Obama's War Speech
Posted Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at 9:19 PM20Following are the notes that I took during President Obama's war speech that he delivered on 12/1/09. Please realize that these are simply direct quotes, observations, and comments that I made during the coarse of the speech. I appreciate any and all discussion in the comment section. Thanks for reading!... -
I Hope I Die Before...
Posted Friday, November 27, 2009, at 4:17 PM2Yesterday, the NFL announced that The Who, or at least the surviving two members of The Who, will be performing at the Annual Super Bowl Halftime Show and Beer Run. I realize that the League is simply trying to prevent another Nipplegate from occurring, and they believe that keeping classic rockers from the 60's awake a few hours past their bedtimes to entertain Baby Boomers is the best way to accomplish this goal... -
The Ghost of Thanksgiving Past (From the Future)

Obama Deserves the Nobel Peace Prize
Posted Thursday, October 15, 2009, at 5:20 AM15In 1917, President Woodrow Wilson, the "ardent prophet of the state, the state indeed as it was known to European scholars and statesmen" as sociologist Robert Nisbet wrote about him, abused expansive presidential powers, utilized a willing media and a bloodthirsty bureaucracy to introduce America to the warfare state...
