Displaced: More than Losing your Home
Something I didn't anticipate about being displaced by the New Year's Flood was the loss and impact of that loss of my routines, rituals, and habits. I kept forgetting to bring stuff with me which, BF (before Flood), I would normally have had on my person or in my car. Now, all was up on the air - some still at the house, my clothes all cold weather (now salvaging warm weather clothes), and the loss of multiple dog crates.
Speaking of dogs, keeping up with their needs in their scattered flood foster homes also is a challenge. Everyone has been wonderful, but four months in, I realized I had not given Shiloh (boarded) his heart worm medicine since December! I needed a physical, paper calendar to keep up to date on vax, HW, as well as food.
Archie the Tyrant, to the left in this photo, is the only dog who moved onto Heaven; I'd been watching him for sometime. Sadly, it became his time and he is greatly missed. Dazzle, the large Beagle mix to the right, is thriving in his flood foster home.
Now that I have a home on the horizon (never say "done" till all the paperwork is signed and keys passed over), we are planning kennels and flooring, as well as the best use of fencing for me (human), the normal dogs, and the escape artistes, Shiloh Beagle and Angel Dachshund.
So, when you weary of your routines, count your blessings - they save you time and effort as well as brain power, though, to be fair, we all need to re-look at our daily routines/habits and refresh as necessary. I've learned a lot in my flood foster home. Some of that next time out.
Thank you for reading!
