Mami de Gund
Yesterday, finally, what I feared would happen, did: Mami, one of my two jumping & wandering Beagles, was hit by a vehicle. She stayed overnight at the vet's; I was home with illness, too - it was not our best day. Mami's doing better but I'll put up a hot wire.
Mami, part Jack Russell Terrier we think, jumps over the higher stone porch instead of the chain link fence which will be a good thing. In the past, I put up an effective hot wire along the top to keep dogs in. I hadn't re-strung it for Mami because she is so very shy but that consideration could have cost her life, so, the hot wire is going up again.
I find it hard sometimes to maintain the balance between good mental health as well as physical health for my dogs. Mami loves wandering the neighborhood - and my neighbors know her; but someone didn't see her in time. We've been given a second chance - so we strike a new balance; who knows, perhaps she would enjoy putting her energy into agility or simple, regular walking with me?
Daily walks would be good for us all. Mami is adoptable - she would do well in a home w/no fence, an inside dog who gets walked several times a day for her business and exercise. I remember doing just that with my first two dogs when I had no fence - we walked about 5 times a day. I miss those walks...come walk with me, Mami de Gund.
