The Oldies Club
I celebrate old dogs. I cry when they die but I enjoy the lives they have when here at Silverwalk and where-ever I see them. I also celebrate older people, of whom I am quickly becoming one! I am purloining an idea directly from an email blogger who, with friends of hers in the UK, do have an Oldies' Club. They are people who champion old dogs, join together for lovely walks, picnics and seek adoptions for these wonderful dogs. Cape needs an Oldies Club and you are all invited.
My vision for Oldies' Club of Cape is not a rescue (not yet - I have another idea) but a club which includes anyone with an older dog, cat, horse who want to share experiences, laughs and tears. Those of us with dogs can set up a monthly walk along the bike train or other trail (poop bags in hand), meet at homes with cats and/or horses and, if there are enough older horse members, trail rides.
Old dogs are wonderful starter dogs. They are usually house trained or will be very easily, they don't eat everything in sight and they enjoy shorter walks and good food. I am careful about how much I feed my older dogs because their activity level is not what i may have been. At Petco Adoption Days last weekend, two people specifically asked for older dogs needing homes. As I grow older myself, I hope someone will always have or offer a home to me :). Tell me what you think - let's at the very least start a monthly Oldies' Club of Cape walk.
Here are some of my oldies:
Stella Beagle - adoptable oldie, cat safe
Betty Boop, Beagle/Basset - adoptable oldie
