Pet ID in the Computer Age
I just put a comment on Ken Foreman's blog about the QR codes I received. No, I am not marketing a house but trying to save my dogs. Awhile back, I found myself at a site called PetHub. Among other things, they register your dogs, then offer you a dog tag with a QR code on the back. Anyone with a smart phone and a QR app can check your dog's tag and find out where she belongs. Of course, the collar and tag need to stay attached. Because they don't always, I routinely use Boomerang CollarTags. You can get them online or, better yet, at Busch Pet Products and Care right here in Cape Girardeau (and for a better price, I might add). The tags are guaranteed to not come off - again, the collar needs to stay on which is why I ALSO microchip my personal dogs. A rescue colleague of mine chips all her rescue dogs as well as her own. I need to talk to her again.
There are also GPS units out there one can buy and use for a much higher price than tagging and chipping but for a very wander prone dog, they may be worth it. Shiloh, who does wander, wanders (so far) in a prescribed circuit where most everyone knows him....I am holding off on the GPS units :). Not enough funds nor need yet...nor ever, I hope!
