Cane is more than Able

Cane and Farrah in the front yard after the first mowing - we had great clover
So, the evening is nice, most of the dogs are heading into their crates for evening meal and my 11 year old Husky/Bernese Mountain Dog mix, Cane, decided to play bow - to ME. Oy vey - so out the door we go, Cane jumping and zooming like a puppy, coming back with another play bow which I answer so he can again zoom away. This was Sunday - he did the same thing last night but we were inside. The dog wanted to PLAY! I found a Kong, tossed that to him throughout the house, he fetched it, we played some tug and finally, finally, he was relaxed and tired enough to eat and rest. This dog is only a senior by the numbers; he is not a senior by his activity level. Now this morning, he got outside with others when I thought I was letting Shiloh out - HA: Jedi, Todd, Shiloh, Cane, AND Danny Quinn, he of 9 lives....got everyone else back quickly. Watched Cane go up the hill with Shiloh past my neighbors. He has done this before but he hung around and came back with me. Today, on perhaps the hottest day this year, the old furry black varmint decides to explore. A visitor came to borrow a crate. I watched Cane during our conversation walk along the creek, having at some point come back from the hill. Went after him with a leash, walking along hot road, glad to have my shoes on, wishing I had my sunglasses, didn't see or hear him till I turned for home. There he was, at the back door, in the shade, probably wondering why I was out wandering in the hot sun. He came running to me, then bounced again on our way back. This dog is too much - he makes me laugh every day. He will be an excellent house dog, playmate, watch dog. He can sound mean but isn't as he proved when Danny Quinn, one of the escapees noted above, was eating Cane's food the other night.
Now, Danny weighs 13#; Cane weighs 83# - Cane stood over him barking but not threatening. Danny knew he was safe but still, he was eating as fast as he could till I scooped up the Buddha-belly to bring him in the house. Cane is one cool dog - though most certainly not a hound. For this reason, I caution people not to have too hard in their minds the perfect dog for them - he may just turn out to be a senior Husky mix, not a Lab puppy after all. You would still get a LOT of play time with this house broken dog. Did you hear that he needs a very good home? Enjoy your dogs and other animals, be sure they are safe in this heat as well as yourselves.
