Dino, Find Home!
Wow, this is Dino's week! He has had two adoption inquiries - one went with another dog while we were "cat scanning" Dino - he does very, very well with cats; the other is just starting to look for just that right dog. Finding the best pet should be a careful, well thought out process to find the right dog or cat to add to your household. I advise to not be too rigid in your expectations of the type or size of dog or cat for which you are looking - someone totally different than the one in your mind may fit your bill - and you will be in love. You want to consider finances, lifestyle, your ability to commit time and training to a dog, your family (and your family to be) as well as the other pets already in your household.
This is why we were "cat scanning" Dino - the potential adopters had a dog friendly cat; they just needed to be sure the dog they brought in was cat friendly. Dino passed with flying colors. His champion at the Humane Society took him back there to go through the cat room; sniff, sniff, greet at each crate - yawn, so what's this all about, Mom? I later took him to Safe Harbor where the cats have free roam in their rooms. He walked through on leash without a flicker of ill intent. The cats, too, are pretty used to dogs as small dogs often have the run of the front area. No one was upset about Dino being in their space, either.
Friday evening, Dino met the second of his inquirers and their current dog at County Park South. Neutral territory so neither would feel they had anything to defend but hey, both are laid back dogs, Dino needing a home and his friend beloved in one. They did fine, even when I handed treats for "sits." Dino did bark but for him, it was a play bark - come on, let's play! All in all, a good week for a very, very good dog!
I want to thank both inquirers for looking to rescue for their new dogs. So many need homes and foster homes. Pass the word about rescue - volunteer, foster or adopt. When you adopt, you save two: the dog you adopted and the one who can now take her place. When you foster, you enable a dog to live more in a home environment out of a pack or pen, which makes him more appealing to adopters looking to bring a dog into their home. Volunteering in any way, shape or form is always appreciated. J. dropped off a huge bag of food for us - just on the day I ran out - coincidence? I don't think so. I can always use someone to walk dogs, help clean crates and tidy up the yards (I am no gardener) and others can as well. Have a great weekend!
