Happenings at Silverwalk and Elsewhere
I have been bursting with things to tell you all since a week ago on Saturday but the week has been so overwhelming in many ways, tonight is the first time I feel I have had time to sit down and spill my guts. Saturday a week ago was a wonderful day and yet with a disappointment. Someone took advantage of someone else's alotted time. It was rude. It was inconsiderate yet I was able to mitigate her rudeness and "used" her to promote the program for whom the time was slotted. Yes, I am being particularly vague but those who need to know, know. It was a nice day - rudeness could not dissuade me especially as I felt able to turn it to an advantage for the appropriate group. I prefer to be positive :).
I walked my old dog Agnes that afternoon out in a park. Agnes doesn't get out often. Her arthritis seems to be getting worse each day so it was nice to have her out and about somewhere not at home. I also heard about a wonderful Beagle, Darby, who had been adopted out several years ago when I was fostering for Safe Harbor. His family loves him, he is spoiled rotten and now has a young Bernese Mountain Dog puppy with whom to play. Those of you who adopt dogs will make a heart glow by sending an occasional report to whomever you adopted them from - we love hearing about our adopted pets!
The day started with a new, young volunteer coming out to walk dogs. I explained what was needed for each of the 3 dogs she walked and let her go. K. with her family had adopted Morley Woods nka Rizzo. They also have two other dogs so she is dog savvy - to a point. How nice to have someone walking dogs on a weekend. Next time she is out I will walk with her to give her more pointers as I find many people have no clue how to safely and properly walk a dog without getting pulled to kingdom come. K. did well. She kept sending photos of dogs to her friend who hopefully will come out with her sometime. It is amazing to me how dog walkers have made differences in the lives of my rescue dogs. Farrah now comes up to strangers! A year ago she would have stayed 20 feet away; now she gooses people. They wonder why I and my more experienced dog walkers laugh with glee when we see her do that; what a change for this beautiful, shy girl who needs a home. What a beautiful day to start a new project!
Speaking of new projects. be on the lookout for media information from Petco for Nov. 7 & 8th about fostering pets. Many rescues/shelters could use this type of help and we want to let people know exactly what is involved. Think about it and come to Petco that weekend for sure.
Margie's Entry
Margie the mutt puppy saved from the dumpster has both sad and good news. The sad news is her rescuer, Margie, was found deceased in her home :(. It is presumed she had a heart attack. She was a great friend to the rescue to whom she took Margie. We are all saddened by her passing but know she is in glory having done the Lord's work of saving lives here on earth. The good news is Margie is now 3 months old, 9.9# and healthy. She is fearless. She plays with everyone, including the new English Coonhound, Bodie, from Chicago. Mimi and Sugar Bear went to Bodie's rescue and Bodie came here as a Chicago suburb is no place for a Coonhound.
Margie went to the vet this past Wednesday with Lady Bird for her second puppy shots. It was comical to see both of them properly sitting, one tall and lean, the other small and a bit wiry, both tails swiping the floor while they waited for their treats. Margie will now sit, down and come to hand signal with or without a treat. She is one smart puppy.
