Jaspers at corner of Independence and West End Blvd reopens, changes name

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

Since the city's Independence Street project began July 22, some businesses along the street have seen a significant decrease in sales. One business - Jaspers convenience store at the corner of Independence and West End Boulevard - took a proactive approach by closing on Sept. 8 and transforming its store into a Rhodes 101 stop.

Rhodes 101 president Keith Boeller said the inside of the store - which recently opened - looks remarkably different. Once inside, he said customers will notice a similar layout to other Rhodes 101s in the area. One unique aspect of the convenience store is a new brand of fried chicken the company is offering just to that store. I'm a big fried chicken fan and hope to make it over there real soon.

"When the Independence Street project began, we had the opportunity to go ahead and close it down," Boeller said. "We're excited about the new items we're able to offer to our customers."

Update on Rhodes' East Main Street development

A year ago, Rhodes 101 acquired a piece of property along Jackson's East Main Street with the intent of building a convenience store in 2009. If you've driven by that property lately, you'll notice a lack of progress there. Boeller said that while they'd love to start building a Rhodes 101 stop next year, the current economic situation has delayed their plans.

Get rid of Boss Hog Rhodes. Remember Dukes of Hazzard. He has been robbing us with higher prices since the 80's. "Your never gonna top the higher prices at Rhodes 101 stop." This should be the radio jingle. Yea Murphy USA and Walmart for putting him in check.

Are they going to accept credit cards/debit cards now or are they still cash only? I only live a few blocks away but never carry cash so I've only made the mistake of going in there once (and they kindly directed me to the ATM which charged me fees).

Most Rhodes locations are cleaner and have better customer service than the competition in Cape. I don't mind spending a few more pennies for gas in order to get a clean and polite consumer experience. The Kidd's on Broadway is staffed with the rudest cashiers in town.

It is still called free enterprise.

People of Cape should know by now that the Rhodes Group control the gas market in Southeast Missouri. They own 4 stations to every one of the other owners. This has been going on for years and years in the Southeast Missouri area and isn't going to get any better.

highest station's in cape to buy gas. economy should not be a problem with them at their prices. or course this is america and they can charge the prople of cape what ever they want to. their prices are lower in jackson and perryville than in cape. what a rip off.
