West Park Mall lands new tenant; a note to all existing, new and soon-to-be business owners

Thursday, November 6, 2008

With the recent news of Steve & Barry's and McAlister's Select leaving West Park Mall in Cape Girardeau, it was encouraging to learn of a new store scheduled to move into the shopping center Nov. 18. Justice Just For Girls offers exclusive fashions and accessories for girls ages 7 to 14. Spokesperson Barbara Kennedy said she is looking to hire 10 to 11 part-time sales associates at the location. The store will keep normal mall store hours, which are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Reminder to business owners that info on my blogs and column is FREE

It's happened more than once. An owner wants to publish news about his or her business but believes it costs them some money. That's not the case. I welcome any news about new business starts, relocations or renovations. Please shoot me an e-mail at bblackwell@semissourian.com or call 388-3628 with information about your business. While I won't publish word-for-word the information submitted, I include the following info if it's a new business start:

The business name, when it opened or will open, what the business entails, why the owner opened the business, store days and hours of operation, phone number, website address (if applicable) and any other information the owner would like to add.

If the news is about a relocation or renovation, I'd like to know information about why one of the two is happening, expected date of completion (or date of completion if it's already occurred), a small history of the company (one to two paragraphs) and other relevant information.

While I compile some information from city hall's business license and building permits divisions and noticing signs in windows or in front of future businesses, I rely many times on tips from you, the readers. Please continue sending in info so I can keep Southeast Missouri informed. I'd love to include information from more than just Cape Girardeau and Jackson. This includes businesses from Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Scott and Perry counties in Missouri and Alexander and Union counties in Illinois.

There needs to be something of substance in there and not the ever changing cycle of trendy stores. The mall seems to be more of a place parents drop their kids off than a shopping center.

Amen to that, farmwife.

That's great, but can the mall get some stores for people in the 25-40 range? Everything there is for either teenagers or 65+.
