Purcell enjoys sizable lead in Cape Girardeau County commission raceTuesday, November 4, 2008
With over half the precincts reporting in Cape Girardeau County, incumbent Republican county commissioner Jay Purcell has a sizable lead over independent challenger Rock Finch in the race for 2nd District commissioner. With 26 of the county's 35 precincts in, Purcell leads Finch 8,685 to 6,672, making Purcell a sure winner of re-election. Purcell ran a campaign portraying himself as a populist outsider taking on the "good old boy" network. The race was colored by Purcell's lawsuit against the county commission alleging a violation of the state's open records and meetings law. Meanwhile Finch portrayed himself as a candidate that would bring respect back to county government if elected. In the race for the county's 1st District commission seat, Republican Paul Koeper is the sure winner over Democrat Marvin McMillan, leading 10,132 to 3,533. You consider yourself an "educated" person? Then why the slanderous comment posted about Commissioner Ron McCormick. Ron has never, EVER committed Medicaid fraud! You need to get your facts straight and keep you slanderous, damaging comments to yourself. In addition, I consider it blasphemy when someone who is obviously not a Christian says "thank the lord". I know this because a Christian would have capitalized the L in the word lord. Plus, I don't believe a Christian would have posted such a LIE about another Christian, or anyone else for that matter. So, the next time you want to thank someone for something, why not your "Lucky stars"? Ron was the better candidate for the job and he can be proud of the fact that he never bought a vote with a beer.
Thank your lucky stars that Purcell is now elected.
Freedom and a transparent government go hand-in-hand to preserve the American Life.
Public trust is the highest reward that an elected official can achieve. With that mandate, Purcell will serve the needs and interests of every constituent.
This county is so misinformed. Jay is a wannabe republican as well as a wannabe good ole boy. I will sit back and watch as he will prove me right this next term. He is a poor excuse for a public servant.
ATTN: Mayor J K of Cape Girardeau
The city has spoken, and we are tired of what has been going on. If you still decide not to deal with the county because Purcell won, then you should leave office now.
You work for us, the citizens of Cape Girardeau, it is not the other way around.
Hopefully Morley will out when Gerald is! The educated people have spoken! NO MORE BACKROOM/UNDER THE TABLE/ GOOD OLE BOYS!!
Purcell is no more of a Republican than Obama is. All of his contributions came from labor unions and the Kelleys. Finch was too naive and too nice. He thought the voters would figure it out on their own. He should have exposed Purcell for what he really is: corrupt and bought and paid for by the unions.

What corruption?
Purcell is a thief. He has destroyed the trust of his family and I only wish the citizens of Cape Girardeau knew just what a sham artist he is.
I agree!
Go Jay! Forward on with the better leadership!
The people of Cape County know where the corruption in county government is. Jones, looks like your days in office may be numbered.
