Republicans subdued as results roll inTuesday, November 4, 2008
Cape Girardeau County Republicans gathered at Drury Lodge are having a subdued party with only the occasional good news to cheer them. The GOP faithful, by 8:15 p.m. about 200 strong, are watching Fox News and listening to Brit Hume tell them about the states Barack Obama is carrying and the states where Republicans are losing Senate seats. The national political climate just didn't fit the Republican message, said John Voss, chairman of the county central committee. "Palin gave us a boost at the convention and Joe the Plumber really helped crystallize the message for McCain-Palin," Voss said. "But I would have liked to have had more clarity in the message early in the campaign." The big news here tonight will be the extent of U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson's apparent victory. With 22 of 476 precincts reporting in the Eighth Congressional District, Emerson is leading Democratic challenger Joe Allen with 74.5 percent of the vote. Emerson is not here yet, but she is expected to speak when the results become clear.

I strongly believe voters are starting to discount the party affiliation and looking much closer at the candidates and their positions. For years the Republican Party has presented themselves as the conservative party but the facts dispute that claim. The Democratic Party has positioned themselves as the people's party but their actions are the contrary. People are fed up with the political party rhetoric and want to know if this candidate truly represents them by their views and issue stands. The timing may be ripe for the emergence of a third party however it will be a uphill climb.
The most positive outcome of this election is that people are starting to awake to the fact that the two-party system is not in their best interests.
Believe me when I say that there is a very energized group of individuals, who are working very hard to organize the third parties - Libertarian, Socialist, Green, Constitution, into unified voice.
Basically what we elected was a reluctant warmonger who is a socialist over a reluctant socialist who is a warmonger.
That is no choice!
The government will continue to grow, the Fed's unfettered power and assault on the free market will continue to be abused due to both candidates voting for the bailout package, our military will still be "making the world safe for democracy" in 130 countries.
Enjoy your last moment in the sun mastadons and jackasses!
Now that the change is coming, the economy will really tank. Asian markets are already down, ours will follow. I guess the Democrats will get what they want after all. We have two years until we can do anything about this situation that we have put ourselves into by not researching our vote.
Republicans shouldn't have tried out Democrating the Democrats. Perhaps they will make the right adjustments next time.
You gonna fess up?
