What number were you at the polls?

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

My turn to vote took less than 20 minutes. The line at Cape Girardeau’s city hall was short, because extra workers kept it moving. I was the 476th voter there today.

Bill and Barbara Port told me they expect close to (or perhaps more than) 1,000.

In 2004, they set a record with 500 or so voters.

"People know who they want," Barbara Port said. Even people who are illiterate know the issues and know the names, she said. Very few straight-ticket voters.

I rarely vote straight tickets and today was no exception.

I’m off to Jackson to check out the lines there. More in a while.
