Carole King to visit Cape Girardeau to support Obama

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

Grammy winner Carole King will visit Cape Girardeau today as part of a two-day visit to Missouri to support the presidential campaign of Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama. King, known for hit songs such as "It’s Too Late" and "I Feel the Earth Move," will not be performing. Instead, she will speak with volunteers and voters about her support for the Illinois senator and take part in a telephone bank calling potential voters. King will be at the Obama campaign office, 821 Broadway, beginning at 6 p.m. The stop is the last on her two-day tour, which included stops in Louisiana, Mo., Hannibal, Mo., Columbia, Mo., and Kirksville, Mo. Stops on her schedule today include Camdenton, Mo., Cuba, Mo., and Farmington, Mo., before the Cape Girardeau visit.

The Camp:

You're most definitely correct ... Reagan was an actor prior to his political career. He had some extended leadership roles in the Screen Actors Guild, but his political experience was nil prior to becoming a two-term Governor.

If you believe that Madonna, Sean Penn, Carole King, Brad Pitt and a host of other Hollywood celebrities have some unique gift to determine what's best for our country, please ... go right ahead.

How was Carole King tonight? Did she impress? Leave you all tingly? Make you feel good?

What a short memory you have...

"I wouldn't trust an actor...to mow my yard, babysit my child, and certainly not to manage anything of importance to me ..."

At some point before he became a Governor or President he was only an actor. According to your stated policy he would have never been elected dog catcher.

The Camp:

- You no habla English. I said that I would have considered then-Governor Reagan's executive experience when he ran for President. And please pass credit where credit is due ... he actually began his political affiliation as a Democrat.

- Do you find it sad that Senator Obama's only accomplishments are winning elections? I actually thought of another accomplishment for him ... he's particularly adept at ditching his friends for political expediency.

- As for the "Republicans like you" comment ... I'm not. I've found it to be quite refreshing to ignore party labels and vote for the best candidate having the best vision for my interests. Voting for a little R or little D behind someone's name is so ... well, intellectually lazy.

- Have fun at the Carole King rally. Given her keen Hollywood insight, I'm sure you'll walk away a more enlightened person. If you get a chance, please ask for her recommendations on this whole economic crisis.

Wisconsin, You might as well add this to the list:

1. Elected President of the United States of America on November 4th, 2008.

BTW: Good thing that Ronald Reagan didn't rely on Republicans like you when he first decided to leave acting and enter politics.

The Camp,

You're correct ... I wouldn't trust an actor or singer.

I can't say I know anything about Senator Thompson (you'll have to ask the good folks of Tennessee) ... but former President Reagan was elected as the Governor of California twice. You'd also have to inquire with the liberal Democratic majority of California to see exactly why they elected a conservative politician ... twice ... to run their state.

I would certainly consider President Reagan's eight years of executive experience in his qualifications to become President ... just as I would of the other 19 former Governors who became President: Bush II, Clinton, Carter, F Roosevelt, Coolidge, Wilson, Taft, T Roosevelt, McKinley, Cleveland, Hayes, Johnson, Polk, Tyler, Harrison, Van Buren, Jackson, Monroe and Jefferson.

Oh ... but I forget ... this election is about how we're supposed to FEEL, not THINK. And right now, these actors and singers are making me FEEL tingly all over at what might be with Senator Obama leading our country. And given his track record of past accomplishments, who am I to criticize?

Now where did I put that list of Senator Obama's accomplishments?

No one should be surprised by how the media favors one party over the other. Here's a link to an excellent article by noted columnist and sci-fi author Orson Scott Card about the intellectual dishonesty of today's media. The surprising thing is this guy is a card carrying, full-fledged liberal and member of the Democrat party and he nails the media, getting it 100% correct, for their obvious bias in favor of Democrats.

Do you mean actors like Ronald Reagan and Fred Thompson?...LOL @ Cape County Republicans this year!

A list of past campaign stops Carole King has made for Senator Obama ... from her own web site at http://www.caroleking.com/...

She's included links to the newspapers who have covered her campaign visit ... to include the comments from readers of the online versions.

What's interesting is the universal thought that --> NO ONE CARES <-- who Carole King supports for President. I find Carole King's opinion on politics as useless as Sean Penn's thoughts on military matters.

I wouldn't trust an actor or singer to mow my yard, babysit my child, and certainly not to manage anything of importance to me ... yet they want us to trust their opinion on who is best suited for President?

Get over yourself, Hollywood! We don't care what you think ... ABOUT ANYTHING!

Did anybody notice? Republican Vice President comes to a Republican county to endorse a Republican Lt. Governor at the home of a national Republican mouthpiece and the Republican controlled newspaper doesn't write a follow-up story?

A fitting match, singers remix songs to make them more appealing and Obama remixed himself to be more appealing. He dumped his pastor, his friends, even dumped on his own grandmother. He voted for every tax increase presented to him, now he said he is going cut income taxed to 95% of the taxes of working people. Only problem is around 30% of working people do not pay income tax. He has a bit of a problem with math. Like counting states, he said he visited 57 states at one point in his campaign.

Just another case of someone following a celebrity. A lot of that going around these days.

I was on the fence with this election and my choice of candidates ... but if a singer tells me Senator Obama is the right choice, it must be so.

She's simply amazing and truly is blessed ... to have that singing voice --- AND --- her political insight is remarkable.

We trust you, Carol! We're just hicks in the Bootheel, so your sacrifice to come here and help us see the light is most definitely appreciated.

Scr3w this campaigning for Obama ... Carol King for Secretary of State!
